South Australia takes the lead in online learning with Studywiz ePortfolio

– South Australia is taking the national lead in providing an interactive personalised online education system in a statewide roll-out of new technology developed in Australia that is designed to prepare students for the skilled 21st century workforce.

Students in South Australia will be able plan for their future and store their own portfolio of work in a secure online environment. –

Australian based eLearning company Etech Group today announced that the schools in South Australia will have access to the innovative Studywiz ePortfolio learning platform.

The initial roll-out of the Studywiz ePortfolio, a web-based platform, will be optional for students in Year 10 across South Australia. It will allow them to build online Personal Learning Plans that count towards the revamped SACE (South Australian Certificate of Education) and gives them credits for learning both inside and outside the classroom.

Students will use the password-protected technology to track progress and share their achievements with teachers, parents or future employers. The portfolios of work can be accessed from wherever the invited end user is operating from – school, TAFE, home or in the workplace.

Geoff Elwood, CEO of Etech Group, makers of Studywiz ePortfolio, commended the State Government for their vision and recognising the need to provide students with 21st century online tools and technology.

“Governments around the world are implementing this online technology to enhance student engagement and close the gap that exists between what goes on in schools and what goes on in the real world so they are better prepared for the 21st century workforce,” he said.

“The technology is designed to work with students in providing a media-rich environment that supports the latest Web 2.0 tools for effective communication between teachers, parents and peers.

“We are very pleased that our Studywiz ePortfolio solution will support the State Government’s future goals and we’ve successfully achieved this by working in consensus and collaboration with schools at grassroots level through to state leadership.”

The decision to rollout Studywiz ePortfolio statewide follows a three-month pilot to customise the tool for South Australian schools in 2008.
